John Salyers Reports on Shoes for Orphan Souls

shoes-logo-w-rotary-300Shoes, shoes, who needs a pair of shoes?  Well, you’d be surprised!  Children all over the world, and in our own back yard, need shoes to be able to go to school.  At a recent Florence Rotary Club meeting, John Salyers spoke about SHOES FOR ORPHAN SOULS® , the largest humanitarian aid project of Buckner International, a global Christian ministry that has been dedicated to making life better for orphans, vulnerable children and families since 1879.

The goal of SHOES FOR ORPHAN SOULS® is to provide new shoes to the world’s 143 million orphans; to vulnerable children living in families earning less than $1 a day; to the working poor in the United States who need shoes to send their children to school; and to the needy among us. Since 1999, more than 2.5 million pairs of new shoes and socks have been distributed to children in 74 countries, including the United States, through this program.

The Florence Rotary Club is participating in this project and our goal is to provide 10,000 pairs of shoes. To help us meet that goal, our Rotary District has worked out a deal with a shoe manufacturer who will sell us shoes for $3 a pair.  You can participate in the Shoes for Orphan Souls club project by writing a check for as little as $3 or as much as you’d like.  Every $3 buys a new pair of shoes!

To participate, send your donation to Florence Rotary Foundation with the notation “Shoes for Orphan Souls.”  For every $3, a child somewhere in the world including the United States, will receive a new pair of shoes.  This is a great opportunity for us to make a difference.
