 Florence, Kentucky – December 18, 2020

The Rotary Club of Florence Scholarship Program awards multiple scholarships to students at each of the county’s high schools (both public and private) each year. Two of these students attended the Rotary Club of Florence’s virtual meeting on Monday, December 18th to share their experiences throughout the 2019 – 2020 school year. Each student has earned a high GPA  in high school and performed many volunteer service hours.

Autumn Jones currently attends Stanford University, although with the pandemic she has been strictly virtual fromAutumn Jones, Boone County High School Alumni home. Autumn shared that she had turned her room into somewhat of a dorm to help her get the college feel and stay on top of her studies. She explained she has had an interest in law since a young age, although she is still not sure as to what she wishes to study. Autumn shared that Stanford placed everyone in the remote area into a group so they could contact each other and have a sense of the Stanford community.

Aneliese Rodriguez, St Henry District High School Alumni

Aneliese Rodriguez also shared that she had turned her room at home into a dorm. She has been studying Biology at Missouri State University.  She has faced some challenges in adjusting to virtual learning since there is less structure than there typically is in person. Aneliese explained that she spends most of her time doing homework and different self-care activities such as mind games on her phone or different ways to relax.  They are both hoping to be in person on campus by fall of 2021

The meeting was a great opportunity to learn about the challenges and adjustments each student has made. This may help other students feel better knowing that they are not the only ones facing these challenges. As well as seeing other students their age find solutions to those problems and successfully work through them.
