Join the Rotary Club of Florence, serving all of Boone County (@FlorenceRotary), on Monday, November 6, 2023 at noon as we celebrate the announcement of 2023’s Citizen of the Year, Jim Parsons.

This award, open to all Northern Kentucky residents, honors those who have found a way to stand out, to light a path for others. The criteria include:

  • Have the respect and admiration of their friends, neighbors and peers
  • Play an active and useful role in the community
  • Exemplify the “Service above Self” standard in his or her professional and community involvement

This year’s recipient, Jim Parsons, received a number of glowing endorsements, his fellow citizens praising his “service above self” as a dedicated community leader, a passionate coach, and a generous supporter of youth development.

Jim has served as an Advisory Board member at the R.C. Durr YMCA, where he helped provide educational and recreational opportunities for children in need. He has also contributed greatly to Notre Dame Academy. He has been a coach, a supporter, and a benefactor of the academy for 15 years, helping many young women excel in sports and in life. His coaching of the Notre Dame Academy’s girls Track and Field and Cross-Country teams, inspired confidence and excellence in many young athletes. He has also donated generously to the academy’s projects, such as expanding the athletic facilities and providing tuition assistance for students in need. Jim is a compassionate, kind and generous man who embodies the values of the Rotary Club of Florence and the Northern Kentucky community.

It has been suggested that Jim is the kind of man who would give the shirt off of his back to someone in need, and while we hope it doesn’t come to that, the Rotary Club of Florence  recognizes that this is the spirit of charity and compassion that we all should strive toward. Jim Parsons embodies the Rotary motto of service above self and is a deserving winner of this prestigious award.
