Rotary Club of Florence Celebrates 2024 Scholarship Recipients

Written By:  Julia Pile, Rotary Club of Florence

Join the Rotary Club of Florence, serving all of Boone County (@FlorenceRotary), on Monday, May 6, 2024 at noon as the club announces the 2024 scholarship recipients and recognize all the hard work they have put in throughout their high school career. Youth play an important part in Rotary. They are our future leaders and will help shape the way the world works. The Rotary Club of Florence is proud to support the youth in our community through scholarships that help them achieve their goals.

All students have continued to show exemplary determination and effort both in and outside the classroom. These students have demonstrated courage, strength, and perseverance. The Rotary Club of Florence wants to show their appreciation and give support to these students through offering a scholarship that may help with tuition and give some a better chance at achieving their career goals.

The club will also will be honoring the first RYLA scholarship recipient.

Applicants are evaluated on their community service, involvement in Rotary and complete an essay reflecting upon Rotary’s motto or Four Way Test and how these will impact the next phase of the applicants life.

Funds to support these scholarships are raised through the club’s annual golf outing which takes place in October of each year.

The recipients for 2024 are:

Boone County High School (@BCHS_Rebels1955) – Joseph Pile
Conner High School (@ConnerHigh)  – Taryn Hubbard
Cooper High School (@RCH_Jaguars) – Rukhshona Tursunova
Ryle High School (@Ryle_HS) – Emma Adelman
Walton-Verona High School (@WaltonVeronaHS) – Max Rice

Inaugural RYLA recipient is Evelyn Voisard of Conner Middle School (@CMColts)

Evelyn will be attending the Rotary District 6740 RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award) in the summer of 2024.  RYLA is a program for 8th graders, who would not otherwise have an opportunity for leadership training or develop leadership potential, an exciting and challenging camp experience that will inspire them to become leaders in their schools, community and life.

Congratulations to all the recipients!

As a large and diverse international organization, Rotary empowers us to help those in need. There are countless opportunities to make a difference to those less fortunate than ourselves. One of Rotary’s greatest, and most successful, missions has been the crusade to eliminate polio completely from Planet Earth, a goal on the cusp of being realized. Rotary also works on worldwide projects as diverse as teacher training where there is a lack, to providing opportunities for those with intellectual and educational disabilities, and supporting breast cancer screenings in parts of the world where mortality rates are unacceptably high.

Locally, Rotary activism works with Boone County Schools to support teachers, students and educators in a variety of impactful ways. We also work with local assistance agencies to reach out to those who need help, offering a hand up and a foot on the right path.

And along the way, Rotary is a fine way to make new friends and business contacts, expanding your leadership and professional skills, while giving back to the community in a meaningful way.
