Jack McAllister, Rotary District Governor, urged Rotarians to “Engage Rotary – Change Lives” at a recent presentation to the Florence Rotary Club. Mr. McAllister is a graduate of the University of Kentucky, and a member of the UK Agriculture Alumni Association.
A member of Rotary for the past 34 years, Mr. McAllister reminded everyone about the good that Rotary International does throughout the world. He stressed that Rotary’s motto of “Service Above Self” cannot be simply words. Mr. McAllister said, “How can we be about service if we are not engaged ourselves?”
The Florence Rotary Club was commended for its fund raising for The Mary Rose Mission which will provide meals for those in need, scholarships totaling over $17,000 for high school and college students, Gospel Concerts with donations collected benefitting local charities, Shoes for Orphan Souls which provides shoes to children both locally and abroad, the Alltech Coffee project to benefit Haiti, and the work Rotarians have done in helping to stamp out the polio virus around the world.
Said Mr. McAllister, “Just as lives were changed in the US in the 1950’s with the beginning of polio inoculations, lives can continue to be changed today here in Kentucky, and around the world, by the good works of Rotary. As Rotarians we have the opportunity to change lives by showing our care and concern for our fellow human beings and doing what we can to alleviate pain and suffering.”
