The History, and Future, of the Boone County Arboretum,

Join the Rotary Club of Florence, serving all of Boone County (@FlorenceRotary), on Monday, July 29, 2024, at noon to hear Kris Stone, Director of the Boone County Arboretum, as he delves into the history behind the development of the Boone County Arboretum and offers an overview of its various attractions and activities. Kris will shed light on both the short and long-term goals for the Arboretum’s ongoing evolution, illustrating the vision for its future growth and enhancement. Additionally, he will explore avenues for community involvement, inviting individuals to contribute to the Arboretum’s journey toward greater success. 

Kristopher Stone, a University of Kentucky graduate with a B.S. in Plant and Soil Science (Horticultural Science), owns Green Vision Professional Services and is Director of Boone County Arboretum, a role he has excelled in since January 2002. An influential figure in the Greater Cincinnati area and Ohio Valley region, Kris actively engages with various community organizations to enhance awareness and networking for the Arboretum.

Kris’s leadership roles are numerous. He is the immediate past President of the Northern Kentucky Urban and Community Forestry Council, an Advisory Member of the Boone County Urban Forest Commission, and the immediate past President of Taking Root. He serves as an ex-officio board member of Friends of Boone County Arboretum and a former President and Board member of the Kentucky Invasive Plant Council. Kris also contributes to the Theodore Klein Plant Award Selection Committee and the Kentucky Urban Forestry Council, ensuring robust support for the Arboretum’s initiatives.

A certified ISA Arborist (KY-0379A), Kris’s passion for horticulture was sparked by his early years near Bernheim Arboretum. His expertise in woody plants, particularly trees and shrubs, is well-regarded. He also has a history as a monthly columnist for Kentucky Gardener Magazine, sharing his knowledge as the “Ask the Expert” columnist.
