NKU: The Social and Economic Engine of Northern Kentucky

Join the Rotary Club of Florence, serving all of Boone County (@FlorenceRotary), on Monday, April 1, 2024, at noon as Northern Kentucky University’s (@NKUedu) President, Cady Short-Thompson (@NKUPrez), discusses “NKU: The Social and Economic Engine of Northern Kentucky.” President Short-Thompson will share her vision and goals to strengthen NKU’s engagement and workforce alignment in the region. She will share a current snapshot of the university’s new partnerships and ways to engage NKU and their students.
Dr. Cady Short-Thompson has served as Northern Kentucky University’s seventh president since October 2, 2023. Throughout her first several months as president, Dr. Short-Thompson has engaged the campus community to learn about strengths, challenges and opportunities ahead, and has established new presidential priorities including strengthening strategic enrollment management and finances, modernizing processes and strengthening regional engagement and workforce alignment.
Dr. Short-Thompson most recently served as the CEO/Executive Director of Breakthrough Cincinnati, an educational equity nonprofit organization serving high need, high potential middle and high school students. Previously, Dr. Short-Thompson enjoyed 25 years in higher education as professor and academic leader. She served as Provost at Hope College from 2017-2021 where she nurtured high-quality academic programs and services, modernized processes, grew resources, improved accreditation compliance, and more. From 2010-2017, Dr. Short-Thompson served as Dean of the University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College.
From 1996-2010, Dr. Short-Thompson served Northern Kentucky University as professor of communication, graduate program director, and department chair. Dr. Short-Thompson earned her BA (1991), MA (1992), and PhD (1997) from the University of Cincinnati. A nearly lifelong Cincinnatian, she is delighted to lead NKU, surrounded by her large family and friends. Dr. Short-Thompson and her husband of 32 years, Steve Thompson, have three college-aged children.
