From Ms. Wilder (lindsey.wilder@boone.kyschools.us) at Ockerman Middle School
Our 8th grade students will be drafting their own “This I Believe” essay in which they reflect on a key belief they hold and describe key life experiences and relationships that have led them to develop this belief.
In this project, we invest a lot of time in brainstorming to help students come up with a topic they find meaningful so that they will be excited to write about it. This year, to further engage our students with this project, we’d like to host a day of adult interviews, where staff members, community members, and parents come in to be interviewed by students about a key belief that they hold, and how they have developed this belief. We know each of you would have something unique and inspiring to bring to the classroom in these interviews!
If you have any parents or other community members that would be interested in coming in to be interviewed by our English class, please let us know. We need interviewees for the following dates and times:
Date and Times:
Monday, October 15
8:50-9:30 am
1:30-2:10 pm
Tuesday, October 16
8:50-9:30 am
1:30-2:10 pm
Also, listed below are some sample questions students may be asking:
1. What is one of your most important values or beliefs you’ve learned in life?
2. Why is this belief so important to you?
3. What are some important events from your life that shaped this belief?
4. Are there people in your life who have inspired this belief? Who are they and how did they inspire it?
5. Are there other people in your life who disagree with this belief? If so, how do you handle this?
Thank you so much for your help with this project. We know your input will be very valuable to our students!
