The Florence Rotary Club was introduced to Project 5 2 by Jerry Reiner of Foundation Builders International. Reiner founded Project 5 2 in 2008 in West Chester, OH.
Project 5 2 is a faith-based 501C3 distributor of food, clothing, furniture and supplies to the needy. The focus of the ministry initially was the tri-state area, but over the past two years the shift has been more towards the Appalachian regions of Eastern Kentucky.
The Project reaches out to support other organizations especially those that serve children, like local orphanages.
Named after the miracle of the 5 loaves and 2 fish Jesus used to feed the 5000, the project began as a single mission trip to distribute bread to the poor of Jackson, Kentucky. Reiner was so taken by the poverty he saw that day, he left a secure career and a 6 figure salary to serve the poor.
Now four years later, Project 5 2 has grown to a large volunteer organization with a Board of Directors, major hubs for distribution, donated warehouse space, volunteer drivers and 500 volunteers from 100 participating churches in the tri-state area.
Kroger, Graebel Van Lines, Caribou, Panera, Bob Evans, Starbucks, Walmart and Chipotle are all participating partners providing products and services to Project 5 2.
