Join the Rotary Club of Florence, serving all of Boone County (@FlorenceRotary), on Monday, October 7, 2024, at noon to hear Jack “Goose” Givens, former University of Kentucky men’s basketball legend and current radio personality, discussing his path to the University of Kentucky, his career there and its impact on his life.

Jack Givens played college basketball for the University of Kentucky Wildcats from 1974 to 1978. He was a standout player for the Wildcats and played a crucial role in their 1978 NCAA championship run. He is most famous for his performance in the 1978 NCAA championship game against the Duke Blue Devils where he scored 41 points, setting a record for the most points scored in an NCAA championship game to the time. This remarkable performance earned him the nickname “Goose” and helped lead Kentucky to a 94-88 victory and the NCAA championship.

After his college career, Jack Givens was selected by the Atlanta Hawks in the 1978 NBA Draft. He played in the NBA for several seasons, primarily with the Hawks and later with the Chicago Bulls. Currently, he calls the Kentucky’s men’s basketball games alongside Tom Leach on the UK Sports Network.
