The Florence Rotary Club on June 25th observed the “Passing of the Gavel” as a new president, Bradley Shipe, was installed to lead the service organization. Shipe will be the club’s 67th president.
Former club presidents were on hand for the club’s traditional Passing of the Gavel Ceremony where the president’s gavel is passed down the line by the presidents until the current president gives it to his successor.
Shipe, a Union resident, is an Investment Advisor with Edward Jones in Florence. Married with two grown children, the Shipe family has resided in Boone County for 21 years. Prior to becoming president, Shipe served on the club’s Board of Directors.
Before turning the meeting over to Shipe, outgoing president, Patrick Moynahan, highlighted the club’s past year.
Under Moynahan’s leadership and dedication, the club had many outstanding accomplishments and continued to grow its membership, making it the second largest Rotary Club in KY Rotary District 6740.
In spite of the outstanding year Moynahan had as president, he spent very little time focusing on his accomplishments, but rather thanking the Rotary members for all their accomplishments.
Moynahan stressed that through the dedication and support of each and every member, the Florence Rotary Club has grown into the outstanding organization it is today.
The Rotary motto of “Service Above Self” is as strong in the club today as it was when it began in 1944.
At Shipe’s July 2nd inaugural meeting he presented his vision for the Club for the upcoming year. With emphasis on community service, he wants the members to identify specific charities they want to serve. He called on them to “pick their passions”. Once the areas of service have been identified, he’d like to see the 117 members break down into smaller teams in support of the area of most interest.
Shipe reminded the Rotarians how rewarding it is to serve and stressed other advantages of membership, like networking, meeting others with like interests, and the opportunity to hear interesting programs on a weekly basis. He has a goal of growing membership in the club.
